This basic information on traffic regulations related to road safety, alcohol consumption, safety equipment and speed limits is valid for all of Croatia. The speed limit on Croatian motorways is 130 km/h. The permitted speed on expressways is up to 110 km/h, and up to 90 km/h on other roads. The speed limit in towns is 50 km/h. During Winter Time (from November to March), daytime lamps must be turned on all the time, regardless of visibility on the road. Throughout the duration of the ride, all passengers in the vehicle are obliged to wear seatbelts, which applies to all the seats with installed seatbelts. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed to sit in the passenger seat during the ride. Children under the age of 5 must use a seatbelt and ride in a car seat on the back seat. Motorcycle or moped drivers, drivers of light quadricycles without protective cabins and any passengers on these vehicles must wear the prescribed homologated protective helmet at all times on the road and keep it properly fastened. Cyclists under the age of 16 must also wear a protective helmet at all times on the road. Finally, the compulsory car equipment includes spare tyres with their associated equipment to be used if needed, an emergency triangle for marking vehicles parked at the side of the road, first aid kit, spare light bulbs that correspond to the type of vehicle they are located in and a safety vest.
